Abdullah Alswaha Abdullah Alswaha

Abdullah Alswaha, Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Communications & IT, arguably has the most important job in technology in GCC, with responsibility not just for the Kingdom’s growing ICT sector, but also for delivering the technology elements of Saudi’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan.

Information technology is a vital part of Vision 2030, both as a pillar of economic development and as an enabler of many other key parts of the plan and as a means to measure progress against targets. ICT touches on many aspects of the program, and delivering Vision 2030 will require the Ministry to lead in key areas such as investment in infrastructure, cybersecurity, skills and education, and regulation, and Alswaha will bring his skills and experience to the role.

Alswaha was appointed as Minister Communications & Information Technology in April this year, but he was already heavily involved in Saudi’s strategic technology plans, having served as head of the National Digitization Office and National Digitization Program at the Ministry of Economy & Planning.

Before joining the public sector, Alswaha worked for over a decade at Cisco, holding a number of different roles across different functions in Saudi Arabia, Europe and the US, before becoming Managing Director & CEO for Saudi Arabia.
