Bader Nasser Al-Kharafi was appointed vice-chairman of Zain Group’s board of directors in February 2014, having earlier joined the board in April 2011.

On 12 March 2017, following the Ordinary Annual General Assembly, the newly elected board decided to combine the role of vice-chairman and group CEO and duly appointed Al-Kharafi.

Earlier in September 2013, he was appointed managing director of Al-Khatem telecommunications company, Zain's JSC in Iraq. In October 2015, he was appointed as vice-chairman of the board of Zain Saudi Arabia.

Al-Kharafi holds office as chairman, VP, MD and Board member in several businesses that form part of the Kharafi conglomerate, one of the largest privately owned, diversified groups based in Kuwait and operating across the GCC and MENA with more than 135 registered companies operating in more than 28 countries in various sectors.

Al-Kharafi is also the chairman and managing director of Kuwait based Gulf Cables & Electrical Industries KSC; general manager of Al-Khair National for Stocks and Real Estate Co; and a board member of Refreshment Trading Company (Coca-Cola). Additionally he is a board member of Gulf Bank, Kuwait, one of the country’s largest financial institutions, as well as a board member of Foulath Holding B.S.C. (Bahrain Steel BSCC).

In early 2014, Al-Kharafi was appointed to the Middle East Advisory Board of Coutts, the wealth division of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. He is also a fervent supporter of, and active member on, the Board of INJAZ, Kuwait. He is also a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kuwait University.

Al-Kharafi attained an Executive MBA from London Business School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kuwait University.

He is a public supporter of youth empowerment, and is a board member of INJAZ Kuwait, a non-profit NGO geared towards the development of future generations.

Al-Kharafi was ranked the second most powerful Arab personality across the Arab world under the age of forty years by leading regional business magazine Arabian Business.
